He hasn’t a nasty bone in his body,
but has the exuberance of a child,
who sometimes act before they think,
when ideas are running wild.
He has a generosity of spirit,
with vulnerability sometimes on view.
And just like me and you,
at times he is fallible too.
He is loved by those adventurous,
but scorned by those with a virtuous view.
And in an effort to land on middle ground,
easily finds himself in a stew.
But we all know and love, people like him.
In our own lives, there are those, with this trait!
Who we protect and make allowances for.
Well, that is my belief, at any rate.
Who could blame him for feeling euphoric,
as his master plan began to unfold?
Who would not understand all the frustration,
that he alone, on his shoulders, had to hold?
Who would deny him an in-house Thank You,
when he had just saved us from going into extinction?
Even Winston Churchill liked the odd snifter,
and he finished up with a distinction.
He is the best we have at this moment,
and a bit more support wouldn’t go amiss.
To try and be all things, to all people,
is such an impossibility, at times like this.

One who carries
a heavy load,
with a head so full,
it might explode.
Should be excused
a well meaning faux pas,
and a human error,
not let, the future mar.
One who works
with good intention,
and gives of their all,
in a unique way.
Should be understood,
in the bigger picture.
When new challenges were met,
and hard work, won the day.
One who carries
on their shoulders,
the weight of the world,
can only do their best.
and should be allowed,
to bravely battle on,
with lessons learned en-route,
in life’s toughest test.

She found five pens
in her bag today,
all competing
for her attention.
She found eight pens
on her bedside table,
but what they had written
she dare not mention.
She found two pens
on the ledge in the loo,
which she approached
with some apprehension.
She found seven pens
in a vase in the kitchen,
for spur of the moment
comprehension.
She found ten pens
in pockets of old coats,
when held back in class
for detention.
She found four pens
under furniture,
loitering with
good intention.
She found one pen
in her hand right now,
so to paper she committed,
God grant her redemption.

She’d sit against the wall
with Nebuchadnezzar –
a stray dog, that
her Dad had found.
And Lassie from
the corner house,
also joined them,
on her daily pound.
‘That daughter needs
a dog of her own’.
said Joe, as his clogs
clattered down the street.
‘She shouldn’t be sat
on the pavement alone’,
‘I’m tellin thee,
it just ain’t reet’.
And marbles rolled
down mucky grids,
and hopscotch went
out of fashion.
And she was expelled
from the Girl Guides,
when boys became
her passion.

We were intrinsically knitted together,
in a patchwork of loyalty and hope.
Taking on the world and it’s challenges,
exploring with immeasurable scope.
We were tightly bonded together,
in a package of paper and string.
Arriving at each destination,
with passports stamped to do anything.
We were finally tied by marriage,
when, to each other, we very much appealed.
And, oh what a wise investment,
with a very fine worthwhile yield.
We were intrinsically knitted together,
losing an odd stitch along the way.
But the pearls of the sea, and fair isles,
kept us happy, til hair turned quite grey.

You are a part of my mental scaffolding.
A life support on a windy day.
Someone who I know to be reliable
to take all my blues away.
You are a part of all that I stand for.
You make me laugh when skies turn grey.
Someone to share my insecurities,
when hard times come my way.
You are a part of my well being,
in sickness and health, a real mainstay.
Someone there at the drop of a hat,
when on a recovery bed, I lay.
You are a part of my infra structure.
An intrinsic part of my DNA.
Someone who always comes to mind,
to keep all the clouds at bay.
You are a part of my forward journey.
There when edges start to fray.
Someone who, in return asks for nothing.
An absolute gem, I have to say.
You are a part of my mental scaffolding.
You made me who I am today.
Someone there for all eternity,
and for that, I give thanks and pray.
