As I walked over the bridge today

I looked down and saw a large carp

motionless in the river. It lay on its

side, cushioned by the water lillies.

It was complete in every part,

but I knew it to be dead.

It looked at peace with god and man.

I walked on, but couldn’t help thinking

‘how short had been it’s life span’.
