You’ve won my love, so what’s the next step now?
We’ve gone as far as we can somehow
Without causing pain, and putting strain
On our loved ones at home, who still remain
Loyal and trusting, innocent and true
It would break their hearts if they ever knew
What can we do?
We knew at the start how these things go,
A smile across a bar, then the next thing you know
It’s weekly meetings full of surprise,
But at home a succession
Of lies and disguise, staring into their eyes.
It would break their hearts if they ever knew
What can we do?
We’ll call it quits and stop it now
There’s the children to consider, and anyhow
Perfection in love is just for the dreamer
But I’ll never know why the grass
Always looks greener
It would break their hearts if ever they knew
And that wouldn’t do!
