Reaching No.14 in 80 Whitney Houston,

gave us a hit easy to recall.

Her wonderful song of past love –

‘Didn’t We Almost Have It All’.

 

Randy Crawford of Crusaders fame

sang of unforgettable love too.

When ‘One Day I’ll Fly Away’, also in 80,

flew up to Number 2.

 

A singer to melt our hearts,

Adele came back with a glow.

Her instant No.1 of 2016 breaking records,

with the very first note of ‘Hello’.

 

Another love song to hit the top spot,

in 90 came from Sinead O’Connor.

With ‘Nothing Compares To You’,

she deserved all the praise put upon her.

 

‘Knowing Me, Knowing You’ in 77,

one of many songs about love gone wrong,

and another No.1 from Abba,

with meaning, powerful and strong.

 

Roxy Music at No.2 in 75

proved that ‘Love Is The Drug’, so fine,

and they weren’t out of reach or out of touch,

by making No2 with ‘Dance Away’ in 79.

 

This next moving love song showed,

when it came to passion, who was the boss.

Reaching No.9 in 73 was

‘Touch Me In The Morning’ by Diana Ross.

 

This heartfelt song of 96

from Celine Dion, showing us how,

love lingers on, long after it’s over,

with ‘It’s All Coming Back To Me Now’.

 

No wonder this No.1 of 04,

saw many download repeats.

So current and refreshing was,

‘Dry Your Eyes’ by The Streets.

 

‘Stay Together’ in 94,

at No. 3 in the charts displayed.

This group with a loyal following

of course, could only be Suede.

 

‘I Wanna Stay With You’ sang Gallagher & Lyle,

and ‘Breakaway’ too in 76,

and also in this year their ‘Heart On My Sleeve’

In 71,  The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra with,

‘The Theme From The Onedin Line’, came into view.

And ‘The Theme from Harry’s Game’,

saw Clannard, at No.5 in 82

 

‘The Theme From The Persuaders’,

gave The John Barry Orchestra a hit in 71,

and Isaac Hayes with ‘The Theme from Shaft’,

also in 71, had us all switched on.

 

‘The Theme From The Deer Hunter (Cavatina) ,

took The Shadows to No.9 in 79,

whilst ‘The Theme From Randall and Hopkirk Deceased’

by Nina Persson and David Arnold, in 2000, at 49.

 

‘The Theme From Cheers’ by Gary Portnoy

gave us a feel-good factor in 84.

Long after ‘The Theme From Z Cars’,

in 62, came from Norrie Paramor.

 

Also in 62, Johnny Keating took

‘The Theme from Z Cars’ to No. 8 in the charts.

( which starred Brian Blessed as Fancy Smith,

a ‘one off’, who still wins many hearts).

 

‘The Theme From E T  (The Extra Terrestrial)’

gave John Williams a hit in 82.

And ‘The Theme From A Summer Place’,

back in 60, took Percy Faith up to No.2.

 

In 81, (and 82 – the re-entry)  – Christopher Cross gave us,

‘Arthur’s Theme ( Best That I Can Do)’

and in 86 with ‘I Do What I Do (The Theme for 9½ weeks)’,

John Taylor reached No.42

 

Diana Ross with ‘The Theme From Mahogany –

(Do You Know Where You’re Going To)’  came in 76.

And at No.6  Ferrante & Teicher, in 61,

with ‘The Theme From Exodus’, in this final mix.

for he who was so far away.

another artist who came good.

In 76 at No.1 with ‘Don’t Give Up On Us’,

was David Soul from Starsky and Hutch.

In 89, Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville

reached No2 with ‘Don’t know much’.

 

Back in 68, ‘Don’t forget to remember’

reached No2,  for The Bee Gees.

And in 2005, making it to No.6

came ‘Don’t Lie’ from The Black Eyed Peas.

 

The Communards with Sarah-Jane Morris,

got to No.1 in 86 with ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’.

And 2 years later in 88, saw Aswad at No.1 with

‘Don’t Turn Around’, for a 2 weeks stay.

 

’Don’t Take Away The Music’ by Tavares,

in 76 made it to number 4.

In 08, ‘Don’t Call This Love’ saw Leon Jackson

(follow his No.1 hit of 07), this time to No.3, soar.

 

Making it to No.3 in 79,

‘Don’t Bring Me Down’  ELO sung.

And reaching No.2 in 2002

‘Don’t Let Me Down, came from Will Young.

 

In 76  ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’

gave Julie Covington a No.1 hit.

And at No.1 in 96 with ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’,

guaranteed Oasis around for a bit.

 

‘Don’t You Want Me’ asked The Human League,

up at No 1 in 81.

‘Don’t Call Me Baby’ by Madison Avenue,

another No.1 that in 99 shone.

 

In 87 ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’,

this fab song Crowded House sung.

And in 91, this was also a hit,

for ever soulful, Paul Young.

 

In 91, ‘Don’t Cry’ came from Guns and Roses,

and soon Roadies, their kit, will be rigging.

If rumours, indeed are true,

that the Group will soon be back gigging?

 

‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’ by The Pretenders,

in 86, made it to No.10.

‘Don’t Ever Change’  a hit for The Crickets,
