Remember when times were exciting
With no responsibilities to dwell upon?
And the only thing that seemed important
Was whether the sun came out and shone.
Remember feeling so very carefree?
When time was really our own.
No hassle, no rush, no commitment.
No, not even a mobile phone.
Remember when things really mattered?
And somehow people always had time.
When folks left their front doors open,
Without any fear of crime.
Remember those long gone days?
When people weren’t in search of power
And time just used to tick by
Gently, hour by hour.
Remember when life was so simple?
When selfishness and greed were rare.
When people looked after each other,
And were always willing to share.
Remember, remember, remember.
For those times are a far off planet
That has long since, sadly, uprooted.
And left us forever, damn it !
Where there was Myrtle
There was laughter and mirth
Now our hearts ache with sadness
As this season of her birth
Comes around once again
For no joy can we find
As we question the departing
Of a loved one so kind.
She must have been needed
In a better place than this
Our eyes stream with tears
As we blow her a kiss
And remember her loyalty,
Her wisdom and good sense
We celebrate her life
But that is no recompense!
Because the loss we are feeling
Is too great to express
And proves once again
That God only takes the best
She was a piece of our jig-saw
A vital part in the plan
That made us tick as a family
‘We’ll sure miss you man!’
And as dawn rises up
Once again on Josey Hill
It’ll be a sadder place without her
But life goes on still
So let us rejoice – together in one voice
As we thank God in Heaven
For our own – Myrtle Boyce
The country set
The cheshire set
The clubs where folk belong
The horsey set
The jet set
Let’s fly off to Hong Kong
The golf set
The church set
Let’s sing that tuneful song
The ‘In’ set
The tennis set
Life’s just a game of ping-pong!

Love is addictive
A lifetime disease
It can break hearts in two
With relative ease
Love is obsessive
A feeling quite rare
Love is a killer
So one must beware
Love rots the mind
It’s a real life condition
It imprisons ones thoughts
Without any remission
Love is so hurtful
A pain to endure
Love is simplistic
And yet also so pure.

Keep things in proportion
Have realistic dreams
For greed and over confidence
Can ruin the smartest schemes
That fickle hair doesn’t have a care
It’s wayward, an outcast
A persistent nuisance
Dancing wildly across the eyes
Impossible to catch
It’s out of control
A confounded pest
It’s a loner, a straggler
A rebel
An unwanted guest
Separated from the rest
Immune to lotions or spray
It’s a distraction
A show off
It demands centre stage
Fills the owner with rage
It’s mind boggling
A monster
Wafting to and fro
The blighter must go
There, it’s cut off in it’s prime
Ah, but wait
It has sisters and brothers
Silently queuing
Just waiting their chance
To break free from the others
And onto ones forehead prance
That single strand of hair
Is a nightmare
That can never be resolved

When eastern winds blow across the mind
And the dream of happiness for all mankind
Seems a distant possibility and yet one finds
In that nanosecond when all eyes
Are opened that once were blind
And all creed and colour at one table dine
Where broken hearts no longer pine
And solace the salvation from daily grind
When earthly love we leave behind
As we pass the angels all neatly lined
To welcome us home, when to death
We’re resigned
The mandarins were so juicy
Far sweeter than any tangerine
I ate four of them
One after the other
Before filling the washing machine

Black so sombre,
Black so strong.
Black so solid,
Black belongs.
Black is power,
Black is strength.
Black is smart
At any length.
Black’s a suit,
Black’s a tie.
Speak out of turn
And black’s an eye.
Black stands out,
Black is loud.
And when it rains
Black’s a cloud.

The game was over
Without delay.
Chances were missed
Goals went astray
When just one more
Would have won the day
It all came down
To toil and sweat
A long hard season
But let’s not forget
That we’re in the ‘Play-off’
And hope still reigns
The double header still remains
Though we look no further
At this stage
Let’s not tempt fate
That mighty Sage
Who holds our future
Who unfolds each page
If we miss out now
We’ll be filled with rage
In extra time, we stood alone
When the final whistle
Too soon was blown
Losing vital minutes
That contentious bone
A top three place could
Have been our own.
