… and bliss stopped by

to briefly say ‘Hi’,

followed by a second

white butterfly.

They swished together

as the dogs jumped high,

unable to catch them

as they touched the sky.

 

…and bliss stooped by

in the blink of an eye,

then left forever

as they breathed a sigh.

They swished together

and let out a cry –

Never to be forgotten

was their last goodbye.

 

 

Blacked-out squares

in the Battleship game –

a change from Sudoku

and wotsit’s name.

 

Never a cross word

as general knowledge he knew,

but he needed my help

with a cryptic clue.

 

 

 

 

Like a menacing cloud that lingers

and threatens to re-appear.

Never far away

is that next moment of fear.

 

Like an un-exploded bomb

from an abandoned ambush,

that rears it’s ugly head

causing blood to rush.

 

Like the constant banging

on a solid oak door

that slowly opens to reveal

a room with a bottomless floor.

 

Like nightmares from the past

that sit deep within the brain –

What point in going back

down that long forgotten lane?

 

Like the chance that wasn’t taken

when risk did overpower.

When the ‘deal of deals’ fell through

at the final hour.

 

Like the one who stayed a while

but ultimately fled !

Was it something that I did?

Was it something  that was said?

 

Like the never ending torment

that caused a lack of sleep.

Never was a tear shed,

but inside a constant weep.

 

Like the good days that came

when I thought all would be well,

but one step forward always took me

two steps backwards into hell.

 

Like a chink in the Armour

where vulnerability seeped through.

Life was never quite the same

after losing you.

 

Like the day that I discovered

someone suffering more than me.

Only then, with eyes wide open

did self indulgence flee.

 

Like the day of resurrection

from the old life that he knew.

Being re-born again the answer;

mistakes learnt – and paid in full, each due.

were at No.2 with ‘Nineteenth Nervous Breakdown’,

and in the charts of 87, Bruce Willis

was at No.7 with ‘Respect Yourself’, on Motown.

 

‘My Brother Jake’ on the Island label,

in 71, was a hit for Free,

and John Lennon was in the charts with ‘Mind Games’

on the Apple Label in 73.

 

In 65,  Dodie West on Decca,

had a Top 40 with ‘Going Out Of My Head’,

and in 92 on Epic – ‘Heal The World’

at No.2, Michael Jackson said.

 

‘Holding Back The Years’ on Electra,

arrived in 85 for Simply Red.

Becoming a US No.1 in 86, on the Wea label –

Mick Hucknall’s voice – to his fans – life’s bread.

 

In 65, ‘Heart Full Of Soul’ on Columbia

found the Yardbirds at No.2,

and in 78 with ‘Mind Blowing Decisions’ 

Heatwave’s fourth consecutive Top 20 on view.

 

In 91, George Michael on Epic,

had a Top 40 with ‘Heal The Pain’,

and in 2006 with ‘Rehab’ on the Island label –

Amy Winehouse shared with the world, her strain.

 

In 65, ‘Help’ by The Beatles on Parlophone –

their eighth UK No.1,  proved to be.

and in 69 ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’,

also on Parlophone, gave The Hollies a UK No.3

 

In 82, Imagination, with their fifth Top 20,

gave us ‘Music And Lights’,

and in the Uk chart in 75 ‘ making No.9,

‘Let The Music Play’ sang Barry White. 

 

Whatever our choice in music,

be it Classical, Pop or R & B –

there’s a song that makes life worth living,

when our minds drift out to sea.

 

So whatever mood we wake up in,

at the start of another groundhog day,

Let’s jump to our feet and pop on the radio,

and dance all our blues away.

and there he was, threading his way

through Saturday morning shoppers –

his gait recognizable, so handsome,

so utterly masculine, and yet so lost.

Could he find me in a crowd? 

absolutely not!

So I stand on a discarded bus ticket 

to make myself taller, and wave 

my hand frantically to attract his

attention. Eventually he spots me

and moves to cross over the road.

He smiles as he mounts the pavement.

I return his smile and ask him if he

remembered to get some onions, and he

says I never mentioned any onions to him,

so we cross back over the road, and

go into the greengrocers, and buy

some onions and cherry tomatoes,

and then continue on home to

watch Footy on TV.

What Bliss !

As one of The Crickets, Buddy Holly,  

in 57, had a No.1 in the US and in the UK

on the Vogue Coral label

with ‘That’ll Be The Day’.

 

Also in 57 on Coral

reaching No.3 was ‘Oh Boy’,

and ‘Maybe Baby’ and ‘Think It Over’,

in 58, brought fans more Top 20 joy.

 

Reaching No.6 in 57 on Coral, Buddy Holly’s

first solo hit – ‘Peggy Sue’ came along,

and in 58, three more Top Twenty hits followed,

proving he could do no wrong.

 

‘Listen To Me’ and ‘Rave On’

being the next two singles in the UK charts,

and with ‘Early In The Morning’  at No.17

Buddy Holly was sure winning hearts.

 

Following his tragic death in 59,

‘It Doesn’t Matter Anymore’ made No.1.

Also in 59, ‘Peggy Sue Got Married’ – a hit,

as fans’ heartache lingered on. 

 

‘Baby I Don’t Care’ / Valley Of Tears’ –

in 61, up to No.12  ran.

In at No.17 in 62 came ‘Reminiscing,

followed in 63 by Brown-Eyed Handsome Man.

 

The second Top Ten hit of 63,

still on Coral, was ‘Bo Diddley’ making No.4.

and at No.10 in 63 came ‘Wishing’ –

What a legacy to leave, for sure.

In 68, on the Blue Horizon label

with ‘Albatross’ were Fleetwood Mac at No.1.

And in 69, their next single – ‘Man Of The World’,

at No.2, on the Immediate label, had our hearts won.

 

Later in 69, making it to No.2 was ‘Oh Well’,

and in 70, ‘The Green Manalishi (with the Two-Pronged Crown)’ 

made No.10 – ( both these singles coming on Reprise) –

this group, guaranteed not to let fans down.

 

In 73, ‘Albatross’ made a re-appearance,

this time on CBS reaching No.2.

And in 79, ‘Tusk’ on the Warner Brothers label,

at No.6,  from their album – loved true.

 

In 82, and still on Warner Brothers,

‘Oh Diane’ made it to No.9.

And also reaching No.9 in 87 –

‘Big Love’ another single, just divine.

 

Also in 87, reaching No.5 –

along came ‘Little Lies’.

And in 88, making No.4,

was ‘Everywhere’, – again no surprise.

 

In 77, came the album ‘Rumours’,

spending more weeks in our charts, than any other LP.

Fleetwood Mac’s music,  meaning so much, to so many,

lifting spirits as hearts run free.
