The bleeding heart of a nation
The lifeless rotting dead
Thousands of prayers never answered
for survivors, still living in dread

Life’s journey is easy
until you hit the hairpin bend.
When the clouds fall to the sea,
and we no longer cease to be
And the mountains turn to sand,
as we destroy this precious land
All too late, with sorrow felt,
we’ll know we blew, the hand God dealt.

Mum, Do you have any suggestions
What I can get Dad for Father’s day?
‘Oh, I certainly can think of one or two things
But it’s better that nothing, I say.
Though
How about a course in etiquette
Or in table manners, at least
Then every meal that we sit down to
Wouldn’t be like eating with a beast!
Perhaps a secret ‘Make over’ day
Like the ones you see on the telly
Where they give men back their self esteem
And instantly reduce their belly
How about getting him some new socks
Or even a tie in the sale
Or a ‘brick’ to put through his computer screen
Now that really would get him to wail.
He’s always been interested in Sci-Fi
So get him a trip to the moon
I think it’ll be rather expensive
So make it ‘one way’ and make it soon
Oh, I really don’t know darling daughter
So it’s best that I leave it up to you
Because if I get involved, and get it all wrong
He’ll say ‘Typical, your mother hasn’t a clue’.
The toast has all gone soggy
The cereal has turned to mush.
It’s always the same at breakfast time,
as we charge about in a manic rush
The trains are always jam packed
And on the motorway there’s a crash
It’s a miracle we get to work on time.
as we set about our daily dash
The planes have all been diverted
Some cancelled because of the fog
It’s a clever man who dons a track suit,
and to the office, decides to jog.
Some folks leave their cars at home
and stick up their thumbs in hope of a hike
Whilst fitter people than you and I
prefer to get there by bike
But get there we do, any which way,
we complete the daily grind
Like an army of ants going underground
as we slowly go out of our mind
Patience paved the way but
prompt action saved the day
The vulnerability in the balance
can be the price we pay.

I can now stare up at the window
where, once you waved me goodbye.
I can now visit shops we frequented
without a tear in my eye.
I can now pick up your recipe book
and copy your rhubarb pie.
But can I go a day without missing you?
Have you ever known me to lie?
There’s birth and there’s death,
and in the middle is
uncertainty.
Do not fear tomorrow
Just peacefully rest your head,
and sleep until the morning is with you
Then happily dance out of bed.
Feeling refreshed and invigorated,
like a nymph, swinging on a gossamer thread
Let your anxieties and cares go windward
and choose the positive route instead.
‘Life’s gone in a flash’, old folk’s tell us.
We shrug our shoulders and think, ‘Oh, Get real’
But before we know it, another decade has gone,
and we begin to know how they feel.
So do not fear tomorrow
Every second is priceless, be told.
Make all of your time count for something
There’s more to life than a pot of gold.
Lust and all it’s aggravation
The dark side of the mind
I could fill a thousand rivers
With the tears for you, I’ve pined.
