At No.1 with ‘Keep On Running’ in 65 –

The Spencer Davis Group, a hit did earn.

Whilst later in 81, The UK Subs sang

‘Keep On Running (Till You Burn)’.

‘Flying High With A Feeling’

were The Commodores, back in 78,

and in this year Queen’s double-sided hit,

was ‘Bicycle Race’, which we thought great.

In 75, ‘Walking in Rhythm’ sang

the U.S. group – The Blackbyrds, with ease.

In 63 ‘Walk Like A Man’ by The Four Seasons,

and their ‘Silver Star’ of 76, also did please.

In 83 Jo Boxer’s – ‘Just Got Lucky’

came after giving us ‘Boxer Beat’.

In 89 Soul ll Soul’s  ‘Keep On Movin’,

had us all on our feet.

Dire Straits, in 86 almost at the winning post,

with their ‘Walk Of Life’, reaching No 2.

And ‘The Best Is Yet To Come’ – ‘For Sure’,

sang Scooch in 07, ‘Flying The Flag (For You).

In 82 America gave us ‘You Can Do Magic’,

eleven years after  ‘Horse With No Name’.

and ‘Flying Without Wings’ in 99,

Westlife, at No.1, made their claim.

Athletic enough for an Olympian –

Mick Jagger should have had a bash!

In 68, we watched In awe, as The ‘Stones’

performed ‘Jumping Jack Flash’.

In 72, Hawkwind taking the Bronze prize,

with ‘Silver Machine at No.3

And also in 72, Melanie coming in at No. 4

with her ‘Brand New Key’.

In 77 – actor turned singer – David Soul,

at No.1 with ‘Silver Lady’, did well.

And ‘Chasing Pavements’ in 2008,

was our own, naturally gifted, Adele.

Continuously reliable with their timing,

in 03, Coldplay brought us ‘Clocks’,

followed in 05 by ‘Speed Of Sound’ –

this group always first off the blocks.

Proving there’s no age limit to winning,

like Spandau Ballet, Nick Skelton claimed ‘Gold’.

‘You’ve Made Me So Very Happy’ we sang,

like ‘Blood, Sweat & Tears, in days of old.

The old adage about ‘competing’ –

and what matters is ‘just taking part’,

in past decades has been consolation,

though everyone had given it their heart.

The old adage now about ‘winning’ –

and what matters, and has from the start,

is that with hard work and ‘Lottery Funding’

we’ve now finished high in the chart!
