Oh frown that came
and crumpled skin so fair,
when asked to expand on that which
caused an anxious glare.
Such agony that touched
ones very being,
as tears welled up,
distress, what we were seeing.
Oh time – the Boss
of one’s past misdemeanours.
Now dirty washing
taken to the cleaners.
Oh past, no tide
can ever hope to change.
Someone, somewhere will know
the truth, however strange.
Oh guilt, so heavy
on one’s shoulders still.
That never can be remedied
by any kind of pill.
Yet memory, so exacting,
in fine detail, chooses to recall,
that of which now matters,
really, not at all!
and sunlight came today;
I gave myself a break,
away from a self absorbed existence –
a breathe of fresh air to partake.
and vision came today;
depression to replace.
My mind flooding with ideas,
I re-joined the human race.
and hope came by today;
a future I could see.
Solitude, a draughty corridor,
that nearly was the death of me.

‘Mandy’ – the first Manilow hit came in 75,
and ‘Copacabana’ about Lola, also a hit for Barry.
In 79, The Police gave us ‘Roxanne’,
and in 80, Cliff Richard sang about ‘Carrie’.
In 70, came ‘Lola’, a favourite Kinks classic.
And in 85, ‘Kayleigh’ by Marillion, we loved too.
In 2006, Fratellis gave us ‘Henrietta’,
and ‘Sylvia’ by Focus in 73, next in this queue.
Earlier, in 67 came ‘Georgy Girl’ by The Seekers.
and The Rolling Stones set ‘Ruby Tuesday’ free.
‘Yellow Submarine & Eleanor Rigby’ – a double sided hit
in 66, saw The Beatles, at the top of the tree.
Also in 66, Wayne Fontana sang about ‘Pamela, Pamela’,
and in 86 The Damned gave us their version of ‘Eloise’.
In 87, ‘Sheila, take a bow’ riding high for The Smiths,
and in 75, ‘Angie Baby’ by Helen Reddy sure did please.
The first two hits for Neil Diamond in the early 70’s
saw ‘Cracklin’ Rosie’ and ‘Sweet Caroline’, in the race.
And in 2008, he was still singing about the girls,
when he gave us ‘Pretty Amazing Grace’.
In 62, The Four Seasons had a hit with ‘Sherry’
and in 84, ‘Joanna’ arrived from Kool and The Gang.
In 90, came ‘Sally Cinnamon’ by The Stone Roses, and,
in 04, ‘Lola’s Theme’ by The Shapeshifters, to No.I sprang.
In 69 Amen Corner sang ‘Hello Suzie’.
Also in 69, The Hollies sang ‘Sorry Suzanne’
In 59, Neil Sedaka released ‘Oh Carol’ –
the first of many hits, for this piano man.
In 93, Van Morrison gave us the infamous ‘Gloria’
And ‘Eleanor Put Your Boots On’, by Franz Ferdinand, in 06.
And now, like in 78, we thank our ‘Lucky Stars’ that –
Dean Friedman’s ‘Lydia’ came along, to end this girly mix.
