The children eat like primates,
with no sign of cutlery taking flight,
whilst slumped in front of the telly –
Table manners, alas, not in sight.

What started off as a simple twinge,
developed into a full blown crisis,
and he finished up in A & E, sat next
to a woman with a bad case of cystitis.
They will fight their corner.
They will stand their ground.
They will rebel, and at times
hate you with a passion.
Your dream isn’t theirs,
and what worked for you,
to them, has long since
gone out of fashion.
Let them explore the world,
and burn off energy in excess.
Didn’t you know that love,
through absence, tightly binds?
Let them educate you,
with their futuristic view.
Didn’t you know that even dinosaurs,
now have electronic minds?
There’s a mouse near the house.
There’s a rat in the drain.
There’s a cat on the roof,
and a man inside, who’s quite insane.
Incidentally,
I forgot to mention
– All will be well.
Go with my blessing child.
Carry my love in your heart.
We’ve all been to hell,
but the nightmare is over.
I promise you that from now on
– All will be well.
They were on a different level,
caught up in a faster zone.
She had a full life with her husband,
just at the time Mum were left alone.
They were actively upwardly mobile
in the fast-track business flow,
just when life came crashing
down around them, and hit home
with a thunderous blow.
Choosing between the two of them,
both needing her in equal measure,
spilt her heart down the middle,
often causing them both displeasure.
It was a no-win situation that comes
with the wretched number ‘three’.
Being impossible to divide into two,
Oh, what misery three can be!
I passed your favourite tree today,
the one you always marvelled about.
You often wondered of its age,
and wisely knew it would see you out.

There’s nothing quite as impressive
as a swanky hanky
when a sneeze he is trying to catch.
A tissue just won’t do
and a manky hanky, makes one,
away from him, want to detach.

After two become one,
when the loving has gone,
and you’re left in limbo,
yet must carry on.
Just think of the good times,
before life became bleak,
when warmth under the sheets,
you both used to seek.
