He could remember being one of nine

going to the Uni Ball, in his clapped out

Ford Anglia car, long before seat belts

were ever installed.

 

He then acquired an old Citroen Diane,

with a big yellow daisy on the side.

It felt as grand as any posh sedan.

He cut a dash and was filled with pride.

 

When he progressed to a red Zephyr six,

with the towns elite he began to mix,

but with worn ratchets underneath the seat,

away from the pedals, always shot his feet.
