The next one will be
a compromise.
No bad thing when seen,
through wiser eyes.
Hard lessons learnt
after sad goodbyes,
though love lives on,
as the final prize.

To see such beauty
in a knot,
when bound together
as if time forgot.
To know such security
from a ring:
A band of gold,
no flippant thing!
They purr in sunlight’s hardened crust,
when smiles and laughter turn to lust,
and dance around the old mill pond,
arms ever searching to respond.
With pressing hopes and expectation;
desire so high, a ruined reputation.
Their love for each, at this time equal;
daring to believe, there’ll be a sequel.
Who’s right or wrong? No care right then.
The same line crossed as fellow men,
who look for solace at days end,
in hope to find that special friend,
to dance with round the old mill pond;
in search of someone to respond,
with arms entwined til journey’s end,
to make as whole, heartache to mend.
During idle thoughts,
when taking needed ‘he’ time,
came drifting into his mind,
she, who wasn’t worth a dime.
The mutual attraction
had been immediate:
No need for formalities
or word rehearsing.
But today,
with her gone from his bed,
the mother of all hangovers,
he was nursing.

So simple, yet so beautiful;
so pure in every way.
The gift of love so durable;
a feeling here to stay.
So powerful, yet so natural,
and with each passing day,
a blessing so incredible;
a fortress, come what may.
So solid, so dependable;
a joy, when skies are grey.
Two hearts that beat in unison;
a love that’s here to stay.

It’s just another day
without him near at Christmas.
Just another day;
no different from the rest.
She sighs another sigh,
the nearer it gets to Christmas.
Just another sigh;
she tries to smile, but fails the test.
She sheds another tear,
as she approaches a lonely Christmas.
Just another tear;
in more heartache she’ll invest.
She dies another day
as she misses him at Christmas.
Just another day,
when she can’t get him off her chest.
………. the bastard!

His hands were very beautiful.
His feet were perfect too.
His teeth, screwed in, but passable.
His eyes the deepest blue.
His smile was just adorable.
His nostrils flared when he lied.
But he was right for her in every way,
and her choice for the long term ride.

By the babbling brook
where he took she,
for the first time
to dip her toes with glee.
By the waters edge
where he lay with she,
but being far too wise,
she did decline his plea.
Over the rickety bridge
did she push he,
to drown his passion
in the hope, sense he’d see!

Their thoughts
quite different,
as they stroll along
in mutual harmony.
No need for words;
each one quite
content with loves
silent rhapsody.
Although their talents clash,
they choose to agree to disagree;
giving space where needed,
as they stroll along
hand in hand,
in disciplined harmony.
