Wash away these cobwebs
Let our love unfold
Take me to Utopia
Before I get too old.
April 20, 2012
That powerful, all consuming urge,
When nothing else really matters.
As you block out all the grief in your life,
And in your head the window shatters.
That feeling is beyond compare
And even though you shouldn’t be there.
You keep returning again and again,
Into her private lair.

Don’t even flutter an eyelash
Let the double entendres pass by
Don’t let him get his leg over
Don’t act all demure and shy
Don’t show a hint of recognition
Let the attention go over your head
Don’t be another notch on his belt
Don’t ever enter his bed
He nipped into the closet
From her bed he quickly fled
When her man came home unexpectedly
As she feigned an aching head
But on the floor her partner spotted
A sock that was not his
Before seeing champagne glasses
Containing drink that had lost its fizz

Just like the swooping of the swifts
On late august nights
Ducking and diving
Before going on their way, and yet
Staying just long enough to make
A lasting impression
You appeared and left your mark
Indelibly implanted in our psyche
What matter if you still exist on earth
If I no longer see your winning smile
Nor walk with you along the riverside
Or stare into your eyes, that did beguile!
What matter if you still exist on earth
If I, by you, will never more be kissed.
I awoke today and thought of you,
I often do, and then other times
You leave my mind and I am free
To breathe, though vacant
And less happy, than when
you fill my world
To love and know no future is in sight
To want and know to have cannot be right
To need and suffer pain not worth the fight
To lose and never know love’s dizzy height

A life lived together
hand in hand
as the years go by
A friendship so true
side by side
until the rivers run dry
To touch a melting snowflake
And experience the momentary magic
Is nothing short of a miracle
To catch your passing smile
And experience a swell of emotion
Is nothing short of exhilarating
To see your goodbye wave
And experience your departing
Is nothing short of devastating
