Speaking as one who is
cursed with impulse,
I know the horror it can create,
when seemingly harmless
devilment, in seconds,
devastation can make.

Oh, it’s you!
I had quite forgotten
you’d be here!
Don’t expect that I’ll
wave a white hanky,
or raise a glass in
good cheer, but for
the sake of these
here present, let’s
air kiss, and away
from each other, veer.
One acts in a certain way
to compensate for the other.
That’s how a worrier becomes
the dumping ground, for those
close by, who just don’t bother.

No need for touchy-feely stuff
No need to step out of line
A union of minds can be enough,
when two hearts as one, combine.

They weren’t competitive enough,
they had no hunger or fight.
Inside of their stomach
was no shark-like appetite.
Too laid back, they were,
even complacent, I guess.
If they’d ran a much tighter ship
they could have avoided the mess.

When cornered by the truth,
on him, silence like a blanket fell.
When a raw nerve was exposed,
he turned and ran like hell.

The trouble with shooting from the heart
is that the chambers only one way dart,
and once the roller coaster starts,
the exposed rawness, to all, one imparts.

Way back when Adam was a lad,
if you had six pence you weren’t half
glad, and oh what joy did a shilling
bring, whilst half a crown, meant
that you were king.

Don’t you just hate imperfection
An unfinished job lingering on.
A niggling fault that comes to light,
long after the workmen have gone.
Don’t you just hate imbalance
revealed by a spirit level out of line.
To other people it looks precise,
but to you, it’s anything but fine.
