James Marcus Smith, known as P J Proby,

had two hits on Decca in 64,

with ‘Hold Me’ at No.3 and ‘Together’ at No.8.

Also in 64, ‘Somewhere’, on Liberty, made a No.6 score.

 

In 65, four more hits followed on Liberty –

the first, reaching No.11 was ‘I Apologise’,

with ‘Let The Water Run Down’ peaking at No.19,

and ‘That Means A Lot’ at No.30, and ‘Maria’ – a No.8 prize.

 

In 66, still on Liberty ‘You’ve Come Back’, arrived at No.25,

and reaching No.34 was ‘To Make A Big Man Cry’.

Ending 66, at No.37 came, ‘I Can’t Make It Alone’,

and in 68, ‘It’s Your Day Today’, at No.32, did lie.

 

In 96, ‘Yesterday Has Gone’ on EMI Premier

peaked at No.58, (with Mark Almond

featuring The My Life Story Orchestra)

for this beloved singer from across The Pond.
